Environmental Policy

Environmental Performance

The Wigtownshire Chamber of Commerce is committed to continuing to improve its environmental performance, minimising its environmental impact and making resource efficiency a core requirement of all its operations. It will also seek to promote good practice by others.

Energy/Water

The Wigtownshire Chamber of Commerce will work to reduce the consumption of energy and to reduce its contribution to emissions of gases and other pollutants which are believed to contribute to climate change. The  Chamber will work to reduce the consumption of water within any premises it may use.

Waste

The Wigtownshire Chamber of Commerce will work to reduce the volume of waste within any premises it may occupy, by wherever possible:

1. reducing consumption of

2. repairing

3. re-using

4. recycling all materials used within its premises, both in daily operations and in other projects.

The Wigtownshire Chamber of Commerce will ensure any recyclables are sorted and sent to responsible recycling facilities, ensure disposal of equipment and cartridges is through the best available channel for re-use, repair or recycling, ensure that potentially hazardous waste (eg., batteries and electrical appliances) are disposed of following the recommended procedures for best practice and, whenever possible, use and encourage others to use electronic communication in place of the physical transport of mail or artifacts and only print documents if this is unavoidable.

Transport

The Wigtownshire Chamber of Commerce will monitor and work to reduce its contribution to environmental emissions from travel undertaken for business purposes.

Procurement

The Wigtownshire Chamber of Commerce will, wherever possible, purchase goods and services to minimise adverse environmental effects.  The Chamber will use local suppliers, where appropriate, and will encourage its suppliers to commit to improving environmental performance.

Other

Where possible, The Wigtownshire Chamber of Commerce will monitor and manage its consumption and use of other resources and materials used within its premises, working to minimise its reliance on non-renewable resources and to avoid use of any hazardous substances.

Business Partners

Where possible, The Wigtownshire Chamber of Commerce will promote environmental good practice to its business partners, encouraging a shared responsibility to protecting the environment.

The Wigtownshire Chamber of Commerce will, as far as reasonably possible and practical, incorporate the principles set out in this environmental policy into its day-to-day operations and develop appropriate procedures.
