The advantages of working with the Chamber of Commerce is that we can provide an impartial and independent overview. As a politically neutral Chamber, we have established very good working relationships with our local Councillors, MSPs and MPs. We also have very good contacts with SE, various NGOs and many other organisations who can assist with information, data, extant knowledge and overseas business potential.

22345777_mThe Wigtownshire Chamber of Commerce is able to carry out a range of research services and project delivery functions on behalf of other organisations including local authorities, third-sector bodies and businesses as they relate to the West Galloway area,  Dumfries and Galloway or Scotland in general. Wider ranging projects can be undertaken too, we have good access to our colleagues over at the Crichton Institute and University of South West Scotland (USW), plus other experts in various fields. Contact us for a no-obligation discussion about your requirements.

Over the last two years we have been tasked by DG Council to undertake a report on the potential trade and tourism benefits of our links with the Dutch town of Enschede – and to follow up on same. The Chamber has completed a study for Dumfries and Galloway Council looking into the prospects for developing trade/tourism links with Enschede in Holland on the back of the fantastic social links between the Dutch Premier Football League side FC Twente and Stranraer. (All credit to Jim McKie and the ‘Tucker Clan’ for their outstanding work in that direction). This (trade) project will now proceed to the next stage of development to further scope out trade and tourism links to the benefit of both economies. Although not without some problems regarding the trade side of things – export regulations, supply and demand, storage, target markets etc, there is still considerable room for developing the tourism business side of things.

The Chamber has also joined the DG Council’s Events Partnership to further promote tourism and business across D&G – although, obviously, our focus will be mainly on Galloway.
